LOS ANGELES (Reuters) - The Arizona Diamondbacks have acquired power-hitting outfielder Adam Dunn from the Cincinnati Reds, the team announced on Monday.
The Diamondbacks will send minor league pitcher Dallas Buck, and two players to be named later to the Reds as part of the deal, the D-Backs said on its website (arizona.diamondbacks.mlb.com).
For Arizona, the move is an answer to the Los Angeles Dodgers trading for Manny Ramirez a couple weeks ago.
The D-Backs (60-58) currently lead the Dodgers (58-59) by 1 ½ games in the National League West division and adding a big bat to the lineup could help them sustain the edge.
Dunn is tied for the Major League lead with 32 home runs this season. He also has 74 RBIs and a slugging percentage of
.528.
Offense has been a weakness this year for Arizona, which is ranked toward the bottom half of the National League in team batting average (.251) and home runs (113).
