CHEYENNE -- A 35-year-old man died Monday evening after a suspected stabbing in the 700 block of West 28th Street and a 33-year-old woman was arrested on suspicion of first-degree murder, the Cheyenne Police Department reported.

Michael P. Venable died after he was taken to the Cheyenne Regional Medical Center for treatment, officers said.

Police responded at 4:49 p.m. Monday to 721 W. 28th St., after a neighbor reported an assault.

Upon arrival, they found a wounded man -- stabbed in his chest -- and later arrested 33-year-old Jessica Venable on suspicion of first-degree murder, police said.

Lt. Rob Korber said the couple is married, and that there were three children home at the time of the incident.

Korber said detectives are still investigating the events leading up to the suspected crime.

The lieutenant would not say if a weapon was recovered or how many times investigators believe the man may have been stabbed.

"We did a search warrant tonight and several items were recovered," Korber said Monday.

An autopsy has been scheduled for today.

Venable's death is considered the second homicide in Cheyenne this year.

In April, authorities arrested 24-year-old Alan A. Sandoval in connection with the death of Ariana Martin.

Sandoval is awaiting trial in connection with the death of the 13-month-old girl and has been charged with second-degree murder. A trial is scheduled to begin July 14.
