Renound political reporter Robert Novak posted to a blog this week that sources close to the John McCain campaign indicate the preusumptive GOP nominee will select a running mate by Friday.
Writing at HumanEvents.com Monday, Novak indicated the McCain campaign would counter rival Barack Obama's highly-publicized Middle East trip with the announcement in an effort to steal the news cycle from the Illinois Democrat, who left on a Middle East trip amid a worlwind of new coverage.
"The name of McCain's running mate has not been disclosed," Novak wrote. "But Mitt Romney has led the speculation recently."
