Umpire suspended one game for Mets incident

June 27, 2008 - 12:00 a.m. EST

NEW YORK (Reuters) - Umpire Brian Runge was suspended for one game for bumping New York Mets manager Jerry Manuel during an argument over a called strike in Tuesday's game against Seattle, Major League Baseball said on Thursday.

Manuel came out of the dugout to argue with Runge after Mets center fielder Carlos Beltran complained about a called strike during his at-bat.

Manuel was fined an undisclosed amount for aggressive conduct and Beltran was also fined for arguing balls and strikes, MLB official Bob Watson announced.
